Successful teachers have many common characteristics. Holding an education degree and getting a professional training can give you the knowledge and skills needed for the teaching profession, but they are not enough to succeed as a teacher. Set Clear Objectives
Planning is very crucial when it comes to guiding students towards learning. When a teacher sets their objectives, students can make connections between what they are learning in the classroom and the outside world. Having clear objectives makes students know the starting point, what they need to focus on in the lesson and they can determine when to seek help from the teacher. The clarity of the objectives makes learning more effective, reduces stress, increases confidence and builds motivation.
Feedback makes learning more interesting because it communicates to students information about where they are and how they can improve as learners. Feedback provides students with information that helps them confirm, refine, or restructure various kinds of knowledge,strategies, and beliefs that are related to the learning objectives (Hattie& Timperley, 2007).
To succeed as a teacher, you should be organized. Organization makes things become easier. Sometimes, teachers feel confused when they are overwhelmed with too much work. You can avoid this problem by having well-designed lessons. You should also have all what can facilitate your teaching and maximize learning such as lesson plans, ICT tools, folders, calendar dates, books, and pictures. Being organized is very important to having a well-managed class, making teaching easier and stress free.
Laughter in the classroom makes the learning process more enjoyable and interesting. Teachers should share their smile with students to make students more relaxed and open to learning. You can use your voice inflections, some facial expressions and body gestures or jokes to lighten things up and bring enthusiasm into the classroom.
