Internet Lessons from Schools

The information superhighway, or simply the internet, has been playing a big part of people’s everyday life nowadays. Today, you can see kids, teens, and even adults – people from all walks of life – browse the internet almost everywhere. But just recently, President Obama declared in his speech an increase of the bandwidth or connectivity of internet in schools that is why there are those who suggest that there should be internet lessons from schools.

As the internet connectivity is increased in schools with the intention of helping students learn more to improve academic performance, it is also inevitable that these kids will have unlimited access to everything offered in the web, including those that are not educational. Because of that, it is extremely important that school administrators provide lessons for these students for guidance on how to use the web for their academic advantage.

With improved internet connection and an increased bandwidth, kids and teens in school can readily access anything in the web. They will be able to browse more and learn just almost anything that can be seen in the internet. With such access, school principals and administrators should highly consider their responsibility in guiding these students to utilize the internet correctly and appropriately.

The improved and enhanced accessibility of the internet in schools should be a major concern of the schools administration and staff. That is why they should be considering creating a program that will teach lessons with regards to internet accessing and browsing. Since it is within the school that students are exposed to everything that is available or offered in the web, major action should be made to guide, discipline and teach those kids to become productive netizens (internet citizens).

It is not surprising that there are distractions and other harmful influences that teens can get from browsing the internet. It is possible that they can somehow use the web wrongly because it is enticing to explore things in the web. Because of that, the school must be aware of the activities of the students in order to reprimand them if caught misusing the web.

There should be a stern supervision to these kids when it comes to computer use. It is the school’s major responsibility to have these students use the computer to learn more, improve academically and acquire skills that are necessary to succeed in their chosen career. Though the internet brings useful information and offers other wonderful benefits, there are still people who are very much concerned of the bad effects students will gain when using the internet. That is why there are some who suggested and even highly recommended that internet in schools should not be approved at all.

Though everyone is aware of the disadvantages and the unwanted effects and influences from the internet, it is still not justifiable to take away the internet for it is undeniably a major help when it comes to academics. If people or parents, mostly, are worried of the bad side of the internet, there are internet filters available that can used to block harmful content in the web.

Internet lessons along with internet filters should be highly considered as students are given good access to the web. Guidance and discipline in using the computer should be encouraged to help students utilize the web for educational purposes.
