Embracing Discovery Education Technology
Anyone who has spent some time browsing through different channels on cable TV looking for something good to watch on a lazy day has most likely stumbled on the Discovery Channel, one of the better known education channels that feature a huge variety of topics that cover the sciences, nature, health, and so much more. It's definitely a channel worth watching, and it doesn't rot one's brain in the process.
If you're well acquainted with the Discovery Channel, then Discovery Education isn't going to be too much to wrap your head around. The Discovery Channel and Discovery Education are both divisions of Discovery Communications.
Discovery Education collaborates with schools and educators to provide content that will enhance learning, which is yet another step for education as it transitions from traditional practices to contemporary and revolutionary new methods in this digital era we now live in. Content will be aligned with the school curriculum. And thanks to Discovery's talented crew, information will be presented to students in a way that's appealing, engaging and relatable.
The Benefits of Discovery Education Technology
I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but this is something I would want in my curriculum. It will definitely improve understanding and give a more concise picture as opposed to just trying to envision what the teacher is explaining.
No matter how good a teacher is in giving details and no matter how good a student may be in painting mental pictures, there's nothing easier than seeing or experiencing something firsthand. If you are shown an actual great white shark in its natural habitat or a group of people from a different cultural background, then grasping the concept is much easier. It also makes the experience of learning more stimulating and impactful.
And with the use of digital content, students and teachers have ease of access to a lot of information. New and supporting data on a variety of topics is literally right at their fingertips. With such a rapid rate of transfer of information, student's capabilities and achievements can be accelerated.
Another good thing about Discovery Education is it gives students the opportunity to continue learning and be engaged even outside the classroom. More and more people now own mobile devices and have access to the Internet, thus increasing access to resources and the potential for spreading information.
It doesn't really matter whether you're at home or at a coffee shop, or wherever you may be or whatever you're doing. If you feel the need to look something up or if you're simply curious about a topic that was previously discussed in class, the answer is just a few clicks or taps away. The key here is the ability to stay connected.
The Evolution of Discovery Education
Discovery Education has the potential to develop even further and promises to be sustainable for the years to come. With Discovery's resources and the partnership formed with educators from different parts of the world, digital content can be readily updated for both primary and secondary schools, and hopefully for even more institutions and more educational levels. The Discovery Education Community connects professionals on a global scale with the use of social media and other virtual conference applications.
It would seem that Discovery Education is right on track in providing positive changes in the classroom and beyond. The use of digital content is definitely something teachers and students can look forward to as technology continues to better the field of education.
