An Inspiring Youth Rises from Orem

The youth is the future. That’s definitely true. And it is only right to educate the young people properly and encourage them to learn new things; and that is what this inspiring young lad from Orem tried to point out.

He is not your average 15-year old for he is a rising specialist in computer programming, video game developing and coding. He was even recognized a number of times for his competence in the said field and other related items. That is Ryan Decker from Orem.

Only a second year student at Timpanogos Highs School, Ryan was already asked to become a student guest speaker for politicians and educators at a Youth Spark breakfast. He was invited to talk about his beliefs about education and how technology motivated him and helped him in his studies and learnings.

His mother, Tracy Decker, was very proud of her young son with his performance. She even revealed that Ryan talked in the gathering without taking a glance at a piece of paper because he did not make a copy of his speech, but simply conveyed what he feels and thinks.

Ryan said during an interview that the experience was a bit scary, but for him, it was an opportunity to share what he thinks and believes about education and the importance of technology as a person educates himself.

This young intelligent boy sees technology as a motivation for education as well as a way to connect to other people who share the same interests. His love for computer programming brought him together with others, which he considers as another way of learning because they can share or impart the things they know and understand to those who are not aware of it yet.

During his talk at the Youth Spark, the audience emphasized about high tech job opportunities. Unfortunately, no one is skillful and competent enough to fill those jobs. That is why the educators want to focus on engineering, technology, science, and math education to help people acquire the qualifications needed to be hired.

And that is what Ryan would want to do. He wants to study more about computer programming and desires to become an expert in game development and design. He is already smart and brilliant in the programming field but he still wants to learn more because he aspires to become a software engineer.

James Nixon, the one who recognized the young boy’s talent, ability and skills, said that what Ryan possesses should not be ignored or neglected, but encouraged and supported. That led him to introducing Ryan to the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) IT certification program. He further stated that the program will greatly motivate the smart young lad to expand his current skill sets as well as teach him new things.

Nixon, who continuously marvels at the Ryan’s competence and expertise, disclosed some of the boy’s accomplishments. He said that Ryan got a perfect score in his Excel 2010 test and was invited to the United States nationals held in Atlanta. Though Ryan did not win in the competition, Nixon still praised and congratulated him for getting that far at a very young age.

Ryan’s story is something that should inspire people especially the young ones to value the importance of education and to appreciate the ever advancing technology the world offers. Being young is not a hindrance to learn and achieve things, but a starting point to educate oneself.
